Exilis is an exceptionally safe and effective non-invasive skin tightening and a body-shaping device that delivers highly controlled, volumetric heating to tissue. Scientifically proven and clinically tested, Exilis uses focused high-frequency technology to redefine appearances by reducing wrinkles and treating laxity in just four to six comfortable treatment sessions. The key benefit of Exilis is its ability to target the energy with the ideal combination of heating and cooling to achieve the best cosmetic outcome while keeping patients comfortable and pain-free.

KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental Kybella product image fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

How Does CoolSculpting Reduce Fat?

CoolSculpting evolved out of an initial study of children eating popsicles and the development of dimples in their cheeks. Two Harvard scientists theorized that the cooling effect of the popsicles somehow affected fat in the children’s cheeks because dimples form where there is a dearth of fat.

That was the origin of CoolSculpting®.

The scientists discovered that human fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than the muscle and support tissue cells surrounding the fat. CoolSculpting® uses panels that deliver controlled cooling downward into the treatment area; this freezes the fat cells but leaves the other tissue undamaged. This process kills around 20-25 percent of the fat in the treated areas, and the body then breaks down and flushes these cells away over the course of the next few weeks. With almost a quarter less fat in the treated areas, the patient’s contour slims.

What Are The Benefits Of CoolSculpting For Fat Reduction

CoolSculpting® is the world’s most popular non-invasive method of fat reduction. It has been performed over 6 million times around the world. CoolSculpting doesn’t require any anesthesia. There isn’t any recovery. There aren’t any injections or synthetic substances. Compared to liposuction, there aren’t any incisions or tissue trauma.

CoolSculpting® simply removes up to around a quarter of the fat in the treatment area. And while it is doing its controlled freezing of fat cells, you can sit back and read, watch videos, work on your laptop, or take a nap. How cool, literally, is that?

What Should I Expect At My First CoolSculpting Treatment? How Long Does It Take?

During your CoolSculpting® session, our CoolSculpting® specialist Cindi Reed will position the CoolSculpting panels over the treatment area. Light suction is applied to the skin and underlying tissue, drawing the skin and underlying fat up between two cooling panels. Controlled cooling is then delivered into the tissue below. The temperature is set to the point where it freezes only the fat cells, leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. Once the fat cells are crystallized, they gradually die. As it does with any waste products, the body’s lymphatic system then gradually flushes the dead fat cells from the body.

This process is repeated several times across the target area until we have covered the entire area. A CoolSculpting® session at Dr. Smith’s generally runs from one to three hours, but smaller areas can be treated in as little as 35 minutes. During your session, you can read, work on a laptop, watch videos, or even take a nap.

What Areas Of The Body Can Be Treated With CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting® was originally approved by the FDA in 2010 for the lower abdomen and upper thighs. Since then, the addition of a smaller handpiece enabled the procedure to be used in other locations. These are the current areas approved by the FDA for CoolSculpting®:

  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Back fat
  • Bra line fat
  • Flanks
  • Underneath the buttocks
  • Double chin

At Dr. Smith’s, we have all the different available CoolSculpting® handpieces, so we have great flexibility in removing fat where you want.

Should I Plan On Losing Weight Before Having CoolSculpting Done?

Dr. Smith wants her patients to understand that CoolSculpting® is a body-contouring treatment; it is not a weight-loss treatment. Patients should be within 10 percent of their ideal weight before coming in for a CoolSculpting® session. The treatment has been created to reduce fat in stubborn areas such as the abdomen. It is not in any way a weight-loss procedure.

To maximize your CoolSculpting® results, it’s a great idea to get as close to your ideal weight as possible. If you do that, CoolSculpting® provides definition and tightened contour.

What Happens After My CoolSculpting Session?

You won’t see immediate results with CoolSculpting®. This is because, while the fat cells have been frozen and are dying, it takes time for the body to remove them. Some patients say they begin to see changes in around three weeks, but the most dramatic results will show themselves after two months or so. And these results keep improving for up to six months.

How Does Profound RF (Long-Pulse Radiofrequency) Work For Skin Tightening?

The key to skin tightening is to trigger a wound response in the skin. When this happens, the body remodels existing collagen at the site of the perceived injury. More importantly, it initiates the production of new amounts of collagen and elastin to “heal” the perceived wounds. This tightens and improves the skin because collagen is the protein that provides the structural framework under the skin. Collagen keeps our skin firm and young looking.

The problem is, as we age our body produces one additional percentage point of collagen every year after our 20th birthday. By 50, were working with 30 percent less collagen. That’sone reason our skin sags, droops, and allows the formation of lines, creases, and areas of volume loss such as the cheeks.

Profound RF kickstarts new collagen production through both aspects of the treatment — microneedling and delivery of long pulse radiofrequency energy into the dermis. Because of a patented thermal needling system, Profound can deliver 3-4 seconds of RF per insertion. This brings the temperature of the dermis to 150 degrees. It’s a one-two punch that triggers a strong skin-tightening effect by increasing collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Profound RF For Skin Tightening?

Profound combines microneedling with the delivery of radiofrequency energy. This combination of two otherwise distinct treatments is what makes Profound RF so effective.

Profound uses very small needles (200 microns wide) that can be set to various penetration depths, from 0.5 to 3.5 mm. Different levels of the dermis can be treated in different passes, and it accommodates varying skin and dermis depths in different areas. The microneedles are insulated, and the RF energy is emitted from the end of each needle. This delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis without having to travel through (and damage) the epidermis. Generally, the further RF energy has to travel through tissue, the more pain is involved.

Adding microneedling to RF energy delivery has its own set of advantages. Penetration of the epidermis with Profound’s microneedles stimulates fibroblasts in the skin to produce collagen (wound response). Plus, topical therapeutics can be applied to the skin after the procedure and can be delivered more deeply through the microscopic holes than they can when applied to the surface normally.

What Results Can I Expect From A Profound Treatment?

Profound delivers its results in a single treatment. In clinical trials, these treatments have shown a 100% response rate with wrinkles and a 95% response rate for skin laxity. For cellulite treatment, studies have shown a 94% improvement in cellulite appearance. These results build over time as the body creates new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Some of Dr. Smith’s Profound patients say they begin to see changes in two weeks after the procedure, but their maximum results continue to develop between three and nine months after these treatments.

How Long Will My Results Last From A Profound RF Treatment?

The gains in collagen production are permanent. However, there’s a caveat. As mentioned above, our bodies produce less and less collagen as we age. This means that the ramp-up of collagen production provided by Profound RF will overcome the decline, but it won’t stop it. That’s why we recommend occasional maintenance Profound treatments moving forward. We can talk about these during your consultation.
