Profound Microneedling Lake Charles, LA
The Profound system is a radiofrequency (RF) energy-based device that is FDA-cleared for both face and body and is clinically proven to create close to five times the elastin and twice the collagen in a single nonsurgical treatment. Used as an alternative to plastic surgery, the Profound treatment provides facial wrinkle reduction and improves the appearance of cellulite. Using patented technology that induces the body’s natural healing process to regenerate the three skin fundamentals (collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid), the Profound system creates younger and smoother looking skin after just one treatment. The Science

In a recent study, the Profound system was analyzed for the treatment of mild to severe facial wrinkles in 100 subjects. At six months post-treatment, blinded evaluations revealed a 100% response rate for wrinkles.

In a separate multi-center study of the Profound system, subjects showed improvement in cellulite severity in 94% of treated thighs assessed at a three month follow up.

Profound FAQs

What is Profound?

The Profound treatment is a nonsurgical alternative for treating facial wrinkles and the appearance of cellulite. It combines long-pulse radiofrequency (RF) energy with microneedling to renew your skin from within. Microneedling and RF energy delivery treatments both work through the body’s healing mechanisms for remodeling existing collagen and creating new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. But when you combine the two, Profound stimulates natural production increases of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to revitalize the skin and build new, healthy tissue.

What can Profound treat?

This treatment aims to provide many of the same benefits and results as a surgical facelift. While we’re not implying that it can replace the extensive rejuvenation you can achieve with a true facelift, Profound delivers impressive skin tightening across the face and jowls. We also use it on other areas known for saggy skin, such as the upper arms, the décolleté, skin above the knees, and even on the abdomen.

The key to Profound is that it delivers its RF energy directly into the dermis, the skin’s second layer. There it stimulates the body to initiate a healing response, where new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are produced and sent to the area. These combine to tighten and firm the skin, akin to what a facelift does.

For cellulite, the same increases triggered by the RF microneedling dramatically decrease the appearance of cellulite in a single treatment.

What are the Benefits of the Profound Microneedling Treatment?

Skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, rejuvenation of crepe skin — those are the benefits of a surgical facelift. But many people aren’t interested in surgery, due to the extensive recovery or simply the surgery itself. Profound delivers many of the same benefits without any incisions and little downtime. Plus, it also lessens the appearance of cellulite, an almost universal problem for women.

Profound Microneedling Lake Charles, LAWould I be a good candidate for A Profound treatment?

Ideal candidates for Profound treatments with Dr. Smith are those looking to reduce the visible signs of aging, improve the firmness of their skin, and lessen the appearance of cellulite. On the facial skin, Profound is especially effective for addressing and tightening sagging around the mouth and jowls under the chin.

How is a Profound Microneedling treatment done?

These are single treatments that take about two hours. Before your Profound treatment, we numb the treatment areas with local anesthetic and then use injectable lidocaine with epinephrine to ensure you’re comfortable and reduce bruising. The Profound handpiece is moved across the treatment areas and the microneedles penetrate the epidermis down into the dermis. As the microneedles reach their depth, they emit radiofrequency energy at the same time. This is the key to Profound’s impressive results. Other procedures deliver RF energy downward onto the skin and it has to first penetrate the outer layer, the epidermis before it can enter the dermis, where the heat will trigger the wound response that improves the skin. When RF energy is delivered onto the outer skin, the energy must be dramatically decreased so as not to burn the outer skin. But Profound delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis from the gold-plated microneedling tips. By delivering the energy directly into the dermis, we can use higher levels of energy in longer pulses, and this creates much more impressive skin tightening.

What results can I expect from my Profound treatment?

These are intended as single treatments. Candela, the maker of Profound, has conducted clinical studies on the effects of these treatments and they are impressive. Profound treatments have delivered a 100% response rate with wrinkle reduction. For skin laxity, 95% of patients say they show a noticeable change. For cellulite improvement, the rate is 94%.

Your results from Profound are not immediate. There in some instant remodeling of the existing collagen across the treated areas, but the real changes come as the body produces new supplies of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid and sends them to the treated areas to “heal” the perceived wounds, even though there aren’t any actual wounds at all. You’ll start to see results as soon as two or three weeks, but these will really build between three to nine months after your treatment.

What is the Recovery Time after a Profound Microneedling Treatment?

You’ll have some swelling and redness across the treatment sites, as well as some mild bruising. All of this typically resolves within 4 to 6 days.

Now, how quickly you can return to your normal schedule after the treatment really depends on you. There shouldn’t be a need f0r you to stop running your everyday errands, but Dr. Smith always advises her patients to take it easy for at least the first day after their treatment. Other than that, be prepared to wash the affected areas of your face and neck 3 to 5 times a day for the first 3 or 4 days following your Profound treatment.

What are the Side Effects from the Profound Microneedling Treatment?

You need to remember that microneedling and radiofrequency treatments are performed every day as separate procedures, and both are safe procedures with little to no risk. Profound simply combines them into one procedure. Plus, by delivering the RF energy beneath the epidermis rather than through it Profound removes the chances of any skin burning or damage. These are minimally invasive, easily tolerated procedures that deliver impressive skin tightening and improvement.

What is the effect of temperature on the dermal remodeling process?

To be effective, non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedures need to trigger the dermal remodeling process, so that a global wound healing response is triggered and new elastin and collagen will proliferate. Loss of elastin and collagen due to genetics and aging results in skin laxity and loss of elasticity. It is known from the literature that partially denaturizing collagen is much more effective at triggering neocollagenesis than fully denatured collagen.1,2 Partially denatured collagen can heal 38% faster than fully denatured collagen and produces a more profound wound healing response. Dosimetry studies have shown that to consistently produce partially denatured collagen, it is important to reach and maintain a target dermal temperature at an optimal range of 67°C – 74°C for 3-4 seconds. Only with Profound is it possible to accurately reach and maintain the exact thermal dose of energy (temperature and time at temperature) needed to partially denature collagen and create the fastest healing response for dermal remodeling.

Why is Profound a unique, novel device for treating skin laxity and increasing dermal volume, particularly of the jawline and submental area?

The Profound system incorporates temperature sensors embedded within the micro-needles and a real- time temperature feedback algorithm to reach and maintain an optical dermal temperature of 67°C for 3-4 seconds, regardless of skin impedance or thermal conditions. Only Profound’s temperature-based feedback algorithm can predictably meet the desired thermal endpoint. With this unique approach, a vigorous wound healing response is initiated with a profound increase in elastin and collagen observed at 10 weeks after treatment; thereby, resulting in greater clinical efficacy for rhytid and skin laxity treatment.
