A Nonsurgical Facelift: Is There Such a Thing?

Facial aging is a concern for many adults. In our Lake Charles office, treating the signs of aging is something we do every day. Often, patients request injectables that smooth lines and plump areas of deflation. However, we sometimes need more power behind our efforts. Knowing that cosmetic aging relates to the loss of volume, elasticity, and firmness (which relate to collagen loss), we may recommend a Profound nonsurgical facelift to achieve optimal results.

What is Profound Skin-Tightening?

The FDA-cleared Profound system has been referred to as a nonsurgical facelift because it acts on the dermis to provoke tissue regeneration. Tissue regeneration requires healthy collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, substances that are produced by certain skin cells. It stimulates new chemical production through a combination of microneedling and radiofrequency. Because the epidermis is penetrated by powered microneedles, Profound is known to achieve dramatic results with few treatments and minimal downtime.

In clinical studies, Profound RF microneedling demonstrated a high level of safety and efficacy. The response rate for reducing fine lines and wrinkles was 100%. Additionally, the response rate for tissue sagging was 95%. Working in concert with natural dermatologic tissue regeneration, Profound treatment achieves results over time. Patients can typically expect to see improvements within six to eight weeks. These improvements continue to progress for up to six months.

Powered Microneedles? That Sounds Painful!

Microneedling on its own can sound uncomfortable. To add a burst of radiofrequency energy into the mix may intimidate many people. We believe that beauty shouldn’t be painful. Before beginning Profound treatments, we administer a local anesthetic either through a topical cream or injections into the skin. With anesthetic, patients are able to tolerate treatment with minimal sensation.

Patients can expect a few days of downtime after undergoing Profound skin-tightening treatment. The delivery of powerful radiofrequency energy into the dermis can result in significant swelling and mild bruising. The treatment area may feel sore or tender to the touch for 5 to 7 days. By one week after treatment, most patients can comfortably return to work and other normal activities.
